Book Beginnings/ Friday 56 #1 – Crossed by Ally Condie

Rules:

Please join me every Friday to share the first sentence (or so) of the book you are reading, along with your initial thoughts about the sentence, impressions of the book, or anything else the opener inspires. Please remember to include the title of the book and the author’s name.

I’m standing in a river. It’s blue. Dark blue. Reflecting the color of the evening sky.

First, what I didn’t put is that this is from Ky’s perspective. What I find interesting about it is that it starts with the character’s thoughts, just like Matched did. It definitely intrigues me and makes me wonder why Ky is standing in the river, and I’m hoping that this will be a story that immediately sucks me in.

“I still don’t believe it,” Cassia says. “Xander wouldn’t give me something that could hurt me.”

The first sentence makes me wonder: Why is this person standing in a river? I’d read more to find out! My Friday 56/Book Beginnings post is here.
