There are a lot of books being made into movies, these days (“Anna Karenina“; etc). So, this week’s musing — courtesy of http://abookandashortlatte.wordpress.com — asks…
Have you ever read a book after watching the movie/television version only to find that you don’t like the book as much as the adaptation?
My Answer: The only book I can think of that I picked up after seeing the movie was It by Stephen King. It was one of my favorite horror movies when I was younger. However, I couldn’t bring myself to finish it (I think I was only a freshman in high school at the time). It was so different from the movie (and so very long) that I just couldn’t bring myself to read it.
I think that’s the only time that’s ever happened, though. Typically, if I know a movie is based on a book, I read the first book. This often has a negative effect on the movie, though, because I either don’t like the movie as much as the book, or I don’t bother seeing the movie because I didn’t like the book. Probably not the best system for movies! lol

That is one reason why I like to watch the movie first. If I read the book first, I usually set myself up for disappointment. I have had 3 movies that I liked better than the books. Here is my Musing!

King’s book are so very, very long. Which is part of why I don’t read them.
