best books read in 2012

Best in Books 2012

1. Best Book You Read In 2012? (You can break it down by genre if you want)

Contemporary YA: Shark Bait by Jenn Cooksey
Dystopian YA:  Divergent by Veronica Roth
Sci-fi/supernatural/paranormal-ish (big lumping together): If I Die by Rachel Vincent

2. Book You Were Excited About & Thought You Were Going To Love More But Didn’t?

My Life Next Door by Huntley Fitzpatrick – After Jac raved about this one, and the description sounded really good, I actually won it in a giveaway! But even though Jac and I usually have the same taste in books, this one just didn’t live up to my expectations.

 3. Most surprising (in a good way!) book of 2012?

The Fault in Our Stars by John Green. The description didn’t sound too appealing to me, but so many people loved it that I decided to give it a chance, and it was amazing! I stayed up till 1am to finish it!

 4. Book you recommended to people most in 2012?

I didn’t do too many recommendations this year, but probably Divergent by Veronica Roth.

 5. Best series you discovered in 2012?

Ooh…this is a hard one. I read a lot of series, and I really liked a few this year. I’m going to have to go with Soul Screamers by Rachel Vincent for my complete inability to put these books down!

 6. Favorite new authors you discovered in 2012?

Jenn Cooksey, Veronica Roth, Richelle Mead, John Green, and Rachel Vincent

7. Best book that was out of your comfort zone or was a new genre for you?

Probably The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini. I don’t read a lot of adult books period, and this one was kind of depressing and disturbing, but for some reason, I still really liked it.

 8. Most thrilling, unputdownable book in 2012?

Hands down, My Soul to Steal by Rachel Vincent. Even though I’ve loved several books, this was the only full-length book that I finished in one day. I just could NOT put it down!

 9. Book You Read In 2012 That You Are Most Likely To Re-Read Next Year:

Hmmm…aside from my usuals of Harry Potter and The Hunger Games, I think I’m going to have to go with Shark Bait by Jenn Cooksey and Divergent and Insurgent by Veronica Roth.

10. Favorite cover of a book you read in 2012?

I just love this cover. It is so striking, especially with the black background. And it was an amazing book to go along with a beautiful cover!

11. Most memorable character in 2012?

Probably Augustus from The Fault in Our Stars. He was just so lovable!

 12. Most beautifully written book read in 2012?

The Fault in Our Stars by John Green. I fell in love with the characters and got so wrapped up in their story that I would forget they were terminal until it smacked me in the face again and again.

13. Book that had the greatest impact on you in 2012?

The Fault in Our Stars by John Green. It was so heart-wrenching, but beautiful.

 14. Book you can’t believe you waited UNTIL 2012 to finally read?

Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead. I’ve had it on my TBR list since I read Twilight in 2009 but never got around to reading it until Jac recommended it.

 15. Favorite Passage/Quote From A Book You Read In 2012?

Startled, I almost lose my balance. Then I feel a steadying hand on my ankle and hear a rustling sound, as someone, some guy, climbs up the trellis and onto the roof, my own secret place.

-My Life Next Door by Huntley Fitzpatrick

“Jesus, Katy, you’re killing me! Does Camie like Tr-” (We hear the definite sound of paper, like a magazine maybe, flying through the air and a thwap as it hit Jeff. Simultaneously, the mouthpiece is covered again. Not well this time, though, because we heard Jeff’s smothered “Quit it, you dick.”) “-Zack or not?” (Both of our mouths form the silent words Oh My God!)

-Shark Bait by Jenn Cooksey

“What are you, twelve?”

“And a half,” he says.

-Insurgent by Veronica Roth

…I was veritably swimming in a paralyzing and totally clinical depression…

-The Fault in Our Stars by John Green

I snort and chocolate milk comes out my nose. Yeah, I know, I’m the sexiest creature on the planet.

-Catching Jordan by Miranda Kenneally

Epic revelation – The end of Insurgent by Veronica Roth.

18. Favorite Relationship From A Book You Read In 2012 (be it romantic, friendship, etc).

20. Best Book You Read That You Read Based SOLELY On A Recommendation From Somebody Else:

Shark Bait by Jenn Cooksey

Book Blogging/Reading Life in 2012 (optional)

Skipping this section because my blog is too new.

Looking Ahead…

1. One Book You Didn’t Get To In 2012 But Will Be Your Number 1 Priority in 2013?

Where She Went by Gayle Forman. I don’t remember much about If I Stay, so I’ll have to reread that first, and I just never got around to it this year.

2. Book You Are Most Anticipating For 2013?

Divergent #3. No question.

3. One Thing You Hope To Accomplish Or Do In Your Reading/Blogging In 2013?
