Description from Goodreads:
More Four! Fans of the Divergent series by #1 New York Times bestselling author Veronica Roth will be thrilled by “The Transfer,” the first of four new short stories told from Four’s perspective. Each brief story explores the world of the Divergent series through the eyes of the mysterious but charismatic Tobias Eaton, revealing previously unknown facets of his personality, backstory, and relationships.
Disclaimer: This review is written under the assumption that you have already read Divergent and Insurgent, since they were released long before The Transfer. If you have not read them, proceed with caution.
Okay, so the Goodreads description really doesn’t tell anything about this short story, so I’ll give you a quick synopsis. It has to be quick, as the story is only 50 pages long. The Transfer is a short story told from Tobias Eaton’s perspective. It starts with his aptitude test and goes through the rest of that day and night, the next day’s Choosing Ceremony, and his first day of Initiation at the Dauntless compound.
I LOVED this short story. It was even better than Free Four. Though we knew a lot about Four’s backstory from reading Divergent and Insurgent, I found it really interesting to actually see a scene while it’s happening, rather than him just talking about it years later. Since we got to see Tris’s aptitude test, Choosing Ceremony, and Dauntless initiation, and we know that both Tris and Four were Abnegation to Dauntless transfers, I found it was really interesting to see the differences and similarities between the two of them at the same stage of their lives.
I thought that The Transfer was a great little short story, especially if you love Four. (And really, who doesn’t?) It made me even more excited for Allegiant and seriously consider rereading Divergent ASAP! I definitely recommend this short story to fans of the Divergent series!
